We had such a great experience at Papa What You Cooking. The restaurant was very clean, and the food was full of flavor. We ordered: -Oxtail with rice and gravy -Shrimp and grits -Mac and cheese Everything was delicious. The oxtail was incredibly tender and literally fell off the bone when we went to serve it onto our plates. The only small issue was that the rice was a bit clumpy and not cooked thoroughly, but even with that, the meal was still enjoyable and deserving of five stars. Thank you for a wonderful meal. This place is an absolute must try.

Oh boy, where do I start. First we were greeted by Papa with the type of energy you only see from people who love what they do, we ordered the shrimp and grits, mac and cheese and a grilled cheese, I was recommended to get the Papas tea which was FANTASTIC ! So refreshing. We were also given a very good sized sweet tea to try… for free ! Also very good ! The grilled cheese pull was something out of a cartoon, the shrimp and grits had me cheesing the whole time we were there, and the mac and cheese was so flavorful. His employees are also super friendly and helpful ! Price was more than fair for how full we were afterwards. Be ready to be full for the rest of the day after eating here. Not kidding. Thank you, we will return.

Soul food like big ma use to make…Gem of downtown Reno in the old post office building basement with limited seating. Had the shrimp & grits, greens & sweet, sweet cornbread, and red beans and rice, all were smack ya mama good. Oxtails next time 😋.

Thr food was amazing and staff was nice. I had the braised oxtail with cornbread. My husband had the Nate sandwich and red beads and rice. Everything was yummy. The only issue was my rice wasn't cooked enough. The food was still yummy and I would come back again. The sweet tea also hit the spot.

We tried this place when we were in the area and it was the best decision we made. We ordered the po boy, oxtail, and watermelon sorbet. The po boy was filling and the roast beef/gravy were delicious. The oxtail came with two large pieces over rice and it was fantastic. I am so glad I ordered it. So filling and rich, I cleaned my plate! The watermelon sorbet cut through all the meaty goodness of our food and was refreshing and bright. The watermelon flavor really came through and was a great dessert. I hope to return and try their shrimp and grits. Thank you for a great meal! I also learned that Guy Fieri came to this place recently and gave his seal of approval! Please check this place out in The Basement if you are looking for some good eats.
